Laurent Monlaü was born in Marseille in 1957 and his
photographic career began in 1977 with his first reportage project
in London entitled Portraits punk, Londres. On a number of trips he
photographed Mexico, the United States and North Africa. During the
Eighties he was primarily involved with film and theater portraits.
In the Nineties, he began photo graphing freely in color and in
1994 became part of the Rapho agency. His work is regularly
published and he is a much sought after portraitist. At the same
time, he also creates highly personal projects, such as his series
on the Moors which won a 1996 World Press award and has also been
published in a book. His Dakhla to Dakhla trip appeared as a book
entitled Le Voyage en Afrique.
His Eden series was taken in Brazil in 2002 and is accompanied by
a film. These three series will be on view at the Wave gallery in
Brescia from 9 December 2006 to 6 January 2007. His most recent
series, which may be viewed on his web site www.laurentmonlau.fr,
is dedicated to Las Vegas. It is a voyage far from the neon lights
and casinos and is rather a portrait of an American town.
