Santi Visalli
Zoom #90 January 2009
Santi Visalli is an eclectic and poetic photojournalist who has
traveled the world for over forty years, recounting facts and
people through the lens of his camera.
An example of the classic "American dream", Visalli arrived in the
United States from Sicily in 1959. His career as photojournalist
got off to a start in 1963 in New York and, thanks to encounters
both chance and wisely and enthusiastically seized upon, in a very
short time he became one of the most successful European
photographers in the US.
From his coverage of current events to photo essays on social,
political and lifestyle questions, he has photographed a piece of
American history. And not only. He has worked on films with
directors such as Federico Fellini and Lina Wertmuller and has
photographed numerous celebrities and stars from the world of film,
entertainment and the arts. Published on the covers and in the
pages of the world's most prestigious dailies and periodicals,
including Time, Europeo, The New York Times, Paris Match, Oggi and
Stern, his photographs are a veritable voyage through time, a flow
of historic events, famous faces and icons of our era that include
six US presidents, actors, singers, directors, musicians and
poets.
