Takashi Kashiwagi is a photographer with a dual soul.
On one side he is a lover of traditional Japanese arts, inspired
by the great Hokusai, who uses photography to diffuse the cultural
memory of the Land of the Rising Sun-values solidly rooted in the
older generations, but today in serious jeopardy among the young
because of the progressive process of "Americanization" that leads
them to ignore their own origins. Kashiwagi sees music, graphics
and photography as means for remembering and reconfirming the
earthly and metaphysical aspects of Japanese cultural identity. On
the other side is Kashiwagi the businessman who has made photo
books a million-dollar business.
