This exhibition curated by photography historian Gail Buckland brings together a unique repertory of 175 works taken by 105 photographers on the theme of rock ’n’ roll. The prints, for the most part rare and never-before-seen, trace the history of this musical genre that marked a true revolution in the life and culture of the entire world. It is comprised of six sections: photos taken behind the scenes; snapshots of budding photographers; live concert photos, photos of fans and delirious audiences; sensual (if not erotic) photos of rockers and bands, including Elvis Presley, Bob Dylan and The Clash; conceptual images; and jacket designers. Among the photographers represented are such greats as Diane Arbus, Annie Leibovitz, Mark Seliger and Albert Watson. The show’s next stop will be the Worcester Art Museum in Massachusetts, from 5 March to 30 May.
