Panopticon Gallery is please to announce an exhibition of photographs by the artist William Wegman entitled Inside | Outside. This exhibition is co-curated by Jeffrey Keough, former Director of Exhibitions at the Massachusetts College of Art and Design.
The images, some from the archives, and some never before seen, capture Wegman's consistent inventiveness from within the studio and outside in the landscape. Wegman earned a BFA from the Massachusetts College of Art in 1965 and an MFA from the University of Illinois in 1967. After teaching at California State College, Long Beach in the early 70's, his interests moved beyond the area of painting and into photography and video. While in California, Wegman acquired Man Ray; his first Weimaraner with whom he would began a twelve-year collaboration.
In 1972, Wegman moved to New York. In 1986, a new dog, Fay Ray, came into Wegman’s life, and a new tool - the Polaroid 20 x 24 camera. Over the years, Wegman’s cast and crew have grown. His photographs, videos, paintings, and drawings have been exhibited and collected by museums and galleries internationally. A retrospective of his work Funney/Strange traveled to museums throughout Europe and the United States, including a stop at the Addison Gallery of American Art in Andover, MA. His monographs include, Wegmanology, Man's Best Friend, Fashion Photographs, Fay, Polaroids, Funney Strange and Dogs on Rocks, just to name a few.
