Everything started more than six years ago with photo5, based on a simple idea: Photographers should get the opportunity to show their favorite pictures of the bygone year in an old industry hall (Maag Event Hall). The selection of exhibitioners was casual and based on personal relationships. We had absolutely no sponsors. During the last edition, the carefully selected works and speeches of world class photographer James Nachtwey or celebrity and fashion photographer Marco Grob, as well as the special edition “In Prison” which showed photographs taken by prisoners attracted a record of 15.800 visitors.
Photo 12 is now opening with 125 photographers chosen out of 380 applicants.
Nora Hauswirth, art director, and Danaé Panchaud, Swiss-French Co-Curator, made their choice in such a way to give the visitors a representative overview of Switzerland’s photographic scene in 2011.
Among the 92 professionals and 33 amateurs that will show their favorite work, there are Christoph Bangert, Stephan Schacher, Simon Zangger, and Dan Cermak.
Photo12 is accompanied by special exhibitions as “The view of others” and the photoFORUM with renowned speakers from Switzerland and abroad.
